In June this year, we introduced improvements to the outpatient appointments service at The Royal London Hospital.
Instead of partial appointment booking, where patients were required to telephone the hospital, the department will now follow a full booking process whereby the hospital will initiate contact with the patient. The automatically generated ‘PB’ letters will no longer be used.
This new process will ensure patient appointments are booked more quickly and allow staff to pre-empt capacity issues in advance of contacting the patient. If patients are not available by telephone, an appointment will be sent to them in the post, with clear instructions of how to change it if it is not convenient.
Please note the above process does not affect written GPs referrals or bookings made via Choose and Book.
We have made further improvements by aligning our central appointments teams to clinical academic groups to better understand and support the needs of our clinical services.
