Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre - Trauma
The Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre for trauma is based at The Royal London Hospital, the busiest major trauma centre in London.
Our team includes 22 consultants from across Barts Health who are experts in a wide range of fields. On average, they treat over 700 severely injured patients at the orthopaedic trauma centre every year.
Working together with plastic surgeons and vascular trauma surgeons, they deliver high-quality care for patients requiring emergency and complex orthopaedic trauma surgery.
Providing specialist care
At this centre, we treat fractures of the upper limb, lower limb, pelvis and more, as well as isolated fractures and dislocations.
We also regularly carry out complex procedures that stretch across different areas of expertise including rib fractures and limb reconstruction. And we continue to use new techniques like robotic surgery and live surgery videoconferencing.
Orthopaedic Trauma Research
Orthopaedic trauma research is carried out at this centre, including running an international fellowship programme. In 2020, it was the leading recruiting centre for trauma clinical research trials.
