Pop-up skin clinics a huge success

Pop-up skin clinics have been a huge success at Barts Health. They were a joint initiative organised by the dermatology teams at the Royal London Hospital and Whipps Cross. Drs Portia Goldsmith and Rebeca Goiriz led at the Royal London and Dr Shefali Rajpopat was co-lead at Whipps Cross and was truly instrumental in getting the clinics running.

We ran 36 clinics and saw 153 members of staff over a six-week period. Mask acne and hand eczema were the most common dermatoses. We were able to give advice, provide pharmaceutical samples and, in a handful of severe cases, arrange formal referral to the dermatology clinic. We issued 55 prescriptions which gives an indication of how troublesome PPE related skin problems have been.

We are immensely grateful to Ionela Tirsar, dermatology nurse, whose enormous efforts enabled the daily organisation and smooth running of the clinics. The dermatology team - Dr Sarah Mehrtens, Dr Padma Mohandas, Dr Montse Gilaberte, Dr Donald Choi, Dr Arucha Ekeowa-Anderson, Ms Celia Mabiala (CNS), Dr Anshoo Sahota and Dr Anthony Bewley gladly volunteered to provide the service.

Thanks also for the efforts of Usha Hawker, Hannah Hathaway, Shabnam Karsan and the Lloyds Pharmacy Team.

Samples were kindly donated by La Roche Posay, CeraVe, Thornton & Ross, Alliance Pharmaceuticals, Almirall & Dermal.

We would be most grateful if those who attended the pop-up clinics would complete a survey on their thoughts.
