"Outstanding, Brilliant" - Barts Health Preceptorship Programme review by Health Education England

Health Education England reviewed our preceptorship programme in 2015 and found that all those who attended the programme rated it “outstanding” or “brilliant”.

The preceptorship programme supports your transition from student to confident practitioner. During the 18 month programme, you’ll be employed as a Band 5 nurse, take part in clinical workshops, e-learning modules, action learning and clinical competency assessments.

Adult Critical Care

The Royal London Hospital is the UK’s largest trauma centre and leads the trauma network for North East London and Essex. Our 44 bedded Adult Critical Care Unit is a leading specialist centre with an international reputation for caring for critically injured patients across London, serviced by London’s Air Ambulance service.

We are extremely proud to have been rated as providing ‘outstanding’ care by the Care Quality Commission in 2016 and were finalists at the Nursing Times Awards 2016 for the best student placement of the year and were one of the major Trauma centres that treated and cared for victims of the London Bridge Terrorist attack in June 2017.

Emergency services

The Royal London Hospital, one of the UK’s largest trauma centres, leads the trauma network for North East London and Essex, serviced by London’s Air Ambulance service.

Our Paediatric Emergency Services is one of the busiest in London treating in excess of 35,000 children per year.

The Royal London Hospital was one of the major Trauma centres that treated and cared for victims of the London Bridge Terrorist attack in June 2017 whose services have been featured on a BBC series programme: Inside The Royal London Hospital.

Newly Qualified or student Nurses are encouraged to gain experience in our other specialist Acute wards before enquiring about opportunities in our Emergency Services. Maternity

The Royal London Hospital provides maternity services to approximately 5100 women a year. Our world-renowned Barkantine Birth Centre was recently named “the best model of care” in the Better Births report by Baroness Cumberlege as well as our newly-opened, state-of-the-art alongside birth centre.

Barts Health has a world-wide reputation for innovation in the care of mothers to be, offering continuity of care throughout the antenatal, labour and postnatal period for women, as well as an enhanced care pathway for home births.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

The neonatal unit at Royal London hospital aims to provide a safe, high quality and family-centred environment, which meets the holistic needs of the neonate and families in our care.

It is a level 3 Tertiary unit providing care for babies born at 23 weeks and above. Our Central delivery suite manages approximately 5,000- 6,000 deliveries per year, with a 10-15 per cent admission rate.
