Karen has worked for the NHS since 1980, qualifying as a nurse in 1984 specialising in surgery, including endoscopy, anaesthetics, theatres and day surgery.

For the last 20 years Karen has managed many services across Barking, Havering and Redbridge.

Karen moved to Barts and The Royal London to manage the emergency department, stroke, trauma and medicine, just in time for the 2012 London Olympics and the move into the new Royal London premises.

After the Trust merged with Whips Cross and Newham hospitals, Karen worked across all Barts Health hospital sites managing theatres, anaesthetics and critical care areas.

For the past four years Karen has been based at the St Bartholomew’s Hospital, managing, at various points, cancer, quality improvement and heart services. She assumed the role of director for operations in 2018.
