Working at our hospitals
If you are committed to providing safe and compassionate care to the population of east London, we want you on our team. As the largest NHS trust in the country we provide care to a diverse population of 2.5 million across east London, 6,000 people every day, yet our hospitals retain their own identities which means we offer you the opportunity and support to experience a wide and varied career within one trust.
Barts Health is made up of three general district hospitals – Whipps Cross University Hospital (Whipps Cross), Newham Hospital (Newham) and The Royal London (Whitechapel) – as well as London’s specialist heart and cancer services in St Bartholomew’s hospital (Barts). We also manage community services at Mile End Hospital.
Your career matters to us
We want you to have an exciting and rewarding career. We provide all our staff with excellent education, training and development opportunities. Our top priority is to ensure the safety and quality of services for our patients and we will invest in you to achieve our ambition.
World leading in clinical care
We are world leading in clinical care and outcomes, so you will be involved in the cutting edge of science and play your part in creating the best care for patients. Our staff are fully involved in developing our services and you will have the opportunity to carve a career unique to you.
Safe and compassionate care
This is at the heart of everything we do at Barts Health, and that includes staffing. We employ the right number and mix of staff to provide safe care and we have embraced a safety culture. Our staff get together at each hospital to tackle issues around safety, quality and staffing. This is supported through an intranet safety hub which encourages learning from incidents, a network of over 100 safety champions and our ward managers have set competencies and “nurse in charge” badges so that people know who to escalate issues to. When it comes to handover, our standardised nursing documentation pack means that patient care is recorded and monitored and handover is safe and effective.
We serve one of the most diverse populations in the country, and we're committed to eliminating discrimination, valuing diversity and promoting equality of opportunity to build and sustain an inclusive environment to deliver and receive safe and compassionate care. Our staff networks support women, people with a disability, people from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background, our LGBTQ+ community and people with caring responsibilities to be themselves at work.
We offer an exclusive benefits package which includes access to one of the best pension schemes in the UK, season ticket loan, schemes to help you buy electronics and lease cars at reduced rates, child care vouchers, on-site nurseries and many other perks.
Life in East London
