Neonatal Transfer Service

Neonatal Transfer Service (NTS)

Providing expert care to babies, in and around London.

Our neonatal transfer service

Our neonatal transfer service

Hosted by The Royal London Hospital

The service works as a multidisciplinary team.

The team provides expert care to babies who are being transferred between hospitals.

Having a baby who is premature, or very sick, is a distressing and often life changing experience. We want to make the experience as smooth as possible for our patients and do our best to give babies the very best care available.

We aim to provide a safe, efficient and timely service that meets the needs of the neonatal patients and clinical teams across London. As well as providing a transport service we also provide education, clinical guidance and engage in audit and research.

You can find information on what to expect during transport, and dedicated support for parents on the service website.

Making an emergency referral

To book an emergency uplift, call the 24-hour phone line: 0207 407 4999

All emergency uplift referrals are taken via the London Emergency Bed Service. They will take the details of your patient and then connect your call to the appropriate NTS team member. If you do not have a cot for the baby, EBS will also cot-locate for you. Please have to hand:

  • your patient’s demographic details including NHS number
  • key antenatal and resuscitation history
  • the latest vital signs, ventilator settings, blood gas and lab results
  • drugs and infusions given

To help with your referral, visit the website for supporting information.
