Food, flags and festivities

Over the past few weeks, Newham Hospital has been buzzing with colour, culture and community as we celebrated Pride Month, Eid, Philippines Independence Day and Carers Week together.
From raising the Pride flag at our A&E entrance to mark the start of June, to sharing food, music and inspiring stories at our staff-led events, colleagues from across the hospital have come together to celebrate our diverse communities.
Last week's Philippines Independence Day celebration was a particular highlight, bringing traditional dishes, vibrant outfits and speeches to the wellbeing hub.
We also held a warm and welcoming Eid party, where staff enjoyed taking snaps in the photobooth, food and sweet treats. Local traders also lined the main entrance selling everything from clothes to jewellery and arts & craft goods.
For the first Carers Week event at Newham, Nilaksi (carer support project worker) and Alison (patient experience and engagement lead) held a successful 'Tea party Tuesday' support club for carers, and a roadshow to highlight how we can support carers whilst their loved ones are patients with us.
These celebrations were made possible thanks to the hard work of our LGBTQ+, BAME, Interfaith and Carers networks. A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise, support and attend the events.
