Working at St Bartholomew’s Hospital
St Batholomew’s Hospital, also known as St Barts, is the oldest hospital in Europe and we know you won’t regret making your mark at this exciting time in its development.
Our world leading specialist hospital has around 181,000 outpatient appointments a year and 41,000 inpatient stays. People from all over the capital, and beyond, come for treatment in our specialist centres.
The Barts Heart Centre performs more heart surgeries, MRI scans and CT scans than any other facility in the world and the state of the art facility employs 800 nursing staff. We offer career opportunities like no other in all cardiac specialities, including rotational programmes over 18 months through a number of speciality areas.
Our Cancer Centre has a nursing team of over 400 and offers career opportunities in haematooncology and medical oncology subspecialties. It also includes rotational programmes through various specialty areas. We emphasise the individual patient’s experience of cancer and make sure that their treatment is both effective and tailored to their needs.
We have a strong commitment to clinical education, commissioning a number of specialist courses as well as hosting in-house courses. If you choose to seek promotion, there is ample opportunity to do so. Equally if you’d prefer to stay in the same role, we promise it won’t get boring with our continuing professional development, working alongside pioneering medics. We value every member of our team here at St Barts and we make sure everyone has time to influence change and be a part of our commitment to constantly improve care.
Working in The City
The spectacular Georgian architecture as you approach the hospital contrasts with the modern state-of-the-art facilities inside, which feel almost like a film set. We are centrally located near to Barbican, Blackfriars, Farringdon and St Paul’s tubes. Blackfriars, City Thameslink and Liverpool Street as the nearest train stations. The area is a great place to work, with the bustle of Smithfield market and views of St Paul’s cathedral from several wards. After work, you can walk in to the West End or head east to meet friends before going home. Most of our team travel to work from outside the area, and with so many travel options, you can choose to live wherever you want!
