Keeping Newham smoke-free

Secondhand smoke exposes our patients, visitors, and staff to over 4,000 chemicals, including more than 50 that are known to cause cancer. (Source: Action on Smoking and health )

That’s why as part of our continued commitment to the Trust’s smoke-free policy, we have installed new smoke detectors across Newham Hospital.

When smoke is detected, a short message will play aloud reminding people not to smoke or vape anywhere on Newham hospital grounds.

In addition, you’ll notice new ‘no smoking or e-cigarettes’ signage across our estate coming soon in hotspot areas.

Staff, patients and visitors are not permitted to smoke anywhere on or around our hospital grounds, particularly given the fire risk that cigarettes carry.

Thank you for keeping our hospital grounds a healthy environment for everyone.
