Newham Hospital announces new acting CEO

Simon Ashton will take on the role of acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Newham Hospital from the end of the year. He is taking on the role after it was announced in July that Adam Sewell-Jones will be stepping down to take up a new position as Chief Executive of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust in December 2021.

Having Simon step-up will provide continuity of care for the hospital’s staff and in turn patients, which is important in the coming months as we enter winter and the pressures associated with it.

“It’s a huge honour to be stepping in to the role of acting CEO for Newham Hospital”, says Simon Ashton. “I’ve loved being the deputy CEO and am proud that I’ve been asked to step up when Adam leaves. I’ve got some big shoes to fill but I’m excited to start and to play my part in making Newham Hospital an outstanding place to work and be treated.”

Speaking on his successor, Adam Sewell-Jones said: “As we emerge from the effects of the pandemic and begin our recovery, and as we enter Winter, having a familiar face at the helm of Newham Hospital will be of huge benefit to staff and patients alike. I’ve worked alongside Simon for nearly two years now, and so I know he is going to do a brilliant job when he steps up. I wish him all the best and know that we will all support him in the role.”

Recruitment for a substantive replacement will begin in the spring.
