A healthcare support worker from St Bartholomew’s Hospital has been named a winner at the prestigious Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Chief Midwifery Officer (CMidO) Support Worker Excellence Awards.

Bhavna Bhugaloo received the award from London’s Regional Chief Nurse, Karen Bonner MBE, at a ceremony held at Kensington Town Hall on 28 April.

The event, part of the London Support Workforce Collaboration Event 2025, celebrated the vital role of healthcare and maternity support workers across the capital.

Athmajothi Husson, education lead for Bands 2–4 at Barts Health, said: "Winning a CNO award highlights the achievements of our healthcare support workers and recognises their exceptional contributions and dedication to patient care.

"Bhavna is a truly worthy recipient – her beaming smile and joy said it all."

Bhavna’s citation praised her "dedication and exemplary service", which has "not only upheld but also elevated the values of the NHS, making a profound difference in the lives of the patients you care for and the colleagues you support."

Barts Health group chief nurse Caroline Alexander added: "I had the privilege of reading Bhavna’s nomination, and the impact she has on her patients during their most vulnerable moments was truly moving."

Two senior healthcare support workers from our Barts Health hospitals also attended the event, sharing their inspiring career journeys within our trust.

On receiving the award, Bhavna said: "I was surprised and very emotional – it felt wonderful to receive such an honour.

"It means a lot that my hard work has been recognised. It’s empowered me even more to continue doing my best to support our patients and our team."
