More services have opened in the new Smithfield Wing at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, marking another milestone in the expansion of modern, patient-centred facilities across the campus.

Imaging services are now welcoming patients. MRI scanning launched on 27 April, with CT services due to open on 11 May.

The unit will provide both general and cardiac imaging, supporting faster diagnosis and treatment.

Initially, the service will see outpatients, operating three days a week.

The opening of imaging builds on the first phase of the Smithfield Wing, which launched in March with day-case breast surgery.

The Smithfield Wing primarily supports inpatient services, while the nearby Giltspur Wing, a new outpatient facility, is expected to open later this summer.

Together, the two wings will strengthen the wide range of specialist services already offered at St Bartholomew’s, including the new breast cancer centre of excellence.

Supported by Barts Charity, the centre brings together surgery, diagnostics and outpatient care in a purpose-built environment designed around patients’ needs.

This latest milestone reflects the significant efforts of clinical, estates, operational and support teams across the Trust.
