Inspiring the next generation of women leaders in medicine

Women in leadership event panel

Doctors from across our Trust came together at St Bartholomew’s Hospital on Friday 20 March for the first‑ever national Medical Women in Leadership event, hosted in partnership with the Medical Women’s Federation.

Held at the Robin Brook Centre, the whole‑day event aimed to support resident doctors who are interested in stepping into leadership roles, while openly discussing the challenges many women face along the way.

From navigating career progression to managing confidence and visibility, the day focused on practical, real‑world advice.

Attendees heard from a range of inspiring speakers, including Dame Jane Dacre and Dame Parveen Kumar, who reflected on their careers and leadership experiences.

Dr Manasi Jyothish, chief registrar at St Bartholomew's, shared her own journey into leadership, offering an honest and relatable perspective.

The programme also included an interactive coaching session led by certified women’s coach Becs Winterbourne, which proved particularly popular.

The event was organised by Dr Alanna Wall, IMT Regional Representative and Medical Women’s Federation Resident Doctor Representative, who is passionate about creating opportunities for women doctors to lead and thrive.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with every attendee saying they would recommend the event. Many highlighted the quality of speakers and the chance to connect with other women working in medicine.

The team now plan to host further Medical Women in Leadership events, building on the success of this inspiring day.
