Staff across Barts Health have been recognised for their generosity after the Trust received a Silver Payroll Giving Quality Mark award.

The award, issued by the Charities Aid Foundation, celebrates employers that actively promote and grow theirGive As You Earn (GAYE) scheme — which allows staff to donate to charities of their choice directly through their salary, before tax is deducted.

By donating this way, staff can make their money go further — a contribution of £5 per month, for example, could cost just £4 for a basic rate taxpayer, with the charity receiving the full amount. This adds up. Over the last 12 months, our staff gave more than £48,000 to charity through payroll giving. Monthly donations peaked at £4,464 in August, and participation has continued to grow — with the number of employees signed up rising by 15% between March and June.

Clare Wilkins, salary sacrifice manager, said:

“We all have charities close to our hearts — and payroll giving is a simple way to support them in a way that makes your money go further. Because donations are taken before tax, more of what you give reaches the cause, which feels especially important in today’s financial climate. It’s great to see so many colleagues using the scheme.”

Staff donated to a range of causes, from humanitarian aid to the arts. Among the most-supported were the Disasters EmergencyCommittee, The Trussell Trust (pictured) and The London Mozart Players’ Trust — showing the varied causes that matter most to our colleagues.

Some colleagues also choose to support Barts Charity through Give As You Earn, helping to fund ground-breaking research, better equipment and improved patient environments across the Trust’s hospitals.
