Anne Weaver to join London’s Air Ambulance

Our clinical director for trauma, Anne Weaver, has been announced as the new medical director for London’s Air Ambulance Charity (LAA).

For more than 25 years, Dr Weaver has been at the forefront of pre-hospital emergency care, helping to transform the way pre-hospital medicine is delivered on the streets of London and beyond.

In 2004, she became the youngest female doctor in the UK to qualify as a helicopter emergency medicine consultant, and has spent her career combining clinical excellence with innovation and education.

Dr Weaver co-founded the UK’s first pre-hospital care programme for medical students, inspiring the next generation of trauma doctors, and played a pivotal role in introducing the use of blood products in airborne trauma response - a development that has changed countless lives, with around three quarters of all UK air ambulances now carry some form of blood product on board.

She said: “It’s an incredible privilege to take on this role, at a service that has been a huge part of my life for many years.

“One thing that has remained consistent throughout that time has been the service’s commitment to excellence, teamwork and innovation and I look forward to ensuring that those values remain at the core of everything we do.”

The recruitment process was carried out jointly between Barts Health and LAA.
