#AskAboutAsthma (14-20 September)
Barts Health is joining forces with asthma specialist nurses across North East London in a children’s asthma education drive and launch throughout September to coincide with Healthy London Partnership and the NHS in London in the annual #AskAboutAsthma campaign to encourage small steps to help improve the quality of life for London’s children and young people living with asthma.
The #AskAboutAsthma campaign is timed to coincide with week 38, when children return to school and when hospital admission rates for asthma are usually at their highest. Keeping children’s asthma under control is particularly important this year due to the coronavirus and any potential second spike.
Both hospital and community children’s asthma nurse specialists will providing virtual updates and educational videos for staff, children/young people and their families. We will send out a daily newsletter with a different theme of children and young people’s asthma, incorporating acute and primary care. Throughout the week, we will be sharing podcasts, blogs and videos that will provide training updates and practical guidance for safe patient discharges as well as insight into asthma within primary, secondary and tertiary care centres and a chance to meet the asthma specialist nurses across North East London.
Our focus is improving the quality of life for London’s children and young people living with asthma. The #AskAboutAsthma campaign aims to encourage health professionals, children and young people and their families to take small steps in the form of three simple effective measures to help them control their asthma, namely:
- To have an asthma management plan
- Be able to use their inhaler effectively
- Have an annual asthma review (as a minimum)
