Countdown to Christmas begins at Newham University Hospital

Panto cast with two patients

Young patients at Newham University Hospital were treated to a special pantomime to begin the countdown to Christmas.

Starlight Children’s Foundation’s pantomime Cinderella, produced by The Panto Company, had all the children laughing, singing and cheering.

Hamera Elahi, specialist play worker, said: “We were delighted to welcome Starlight – the children really enjoyed the show. This was a chance for our patients to get excited about Christmas, have a break from their treatment and forget about their illness for a short while.”

Sue Wildman, Head of Children’s Services at Starlight Children’s Foundation, said: “Starlight’s Christmas Pantomime is a fabulous way of spreading some much-needed festive cheer to hospitalised children and their families over the Christmas period. We hope that this performance of Cinderella was just what the doctor ordered.”

Starlight is a national charity that grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes for seriously and terminally ill children and provides entertainment in hospitals and hospices across the UK.  Starlight’s Christmas pantomime popped by the hospital during an eight-week tour that will see it visit children’s wards throughout the country.
