Doctors' improvement projects win national awards
Two projects led by doctors at Barts Health NHS Trust have received national recognition at the Royal College of Physicians' (RCP) Excellence in Patient Care Awards.
The awards, presented in Liverpool on 9 July, recognised work to improve both patient care and the working lives of doctors across the trust.
At St Bartholomew's Hospital, chief registrars Dr Manasi Jyothish and Dr Rob Monfries won the Chief Registrar Project of the Year Award for a programme aimed at improving the experience of resident doctors (formerly junior doctors).
Their project introduced new mentoring opportunities for locally employed doctors, career development events and initiatives to promote equality, diversity and inclusion. The judges recognised its impact in creating a more supportive and positive working environment for doctors.
Dr Jyothish said: "Winning this award has been a true honour and is a testament to our collaborative efforts with the management team. We have always believed that excellent patient care goes hand in hand with a supported and fulfilled workforce."
Meanwhile, at The Royal London Hospital, Dr Barbara Onen won the Service Improvement Award for developing a new Same Day Emergency Care pathway for patients experiencing neurological harm linked to nitrous oxide use.
The pathway allows patients to be assessed and treated on the same day, reducing the need for hospital admission and helping patients recover more quickly. Judges praised the project for improving patient outcomes while reducing pressure on hospital beds and costs.
Professor Sanjiv Sharma, group chief medical Officer at Barts Health, said: "These awards showcase the innovation, compassion and dedication of our clinical teams. Whether improving the experience of our doctors or developing new ways to care for patients, this work reflects our commitment to delivering outstanding care and continually improving the services we provide.
"We are incredibly proud to see our colleagues recognised nationally for the difference they are making."
