Four women to join Barts Health board

Rebecca Carlton, Helen Spice, Joni Ferns, Sarah Teather

We are pleased to announce that Rebecca Carlton has been appointed as our new group chief operating officer and will join the trust in the new year.

Rebecca will have group-wide responsibility for all aspects of our planned care recovery programme, working with our transformation and improvement teams to maximise our theatre capacity and leading our diagnostics and cancer performance and recovery. Rebecca will also work with hospital teams and partners to lead our urgent and emergency care delivery.

In addition to improving our care for patients, Rebecca will be responsible for our group-wide estates and facilities management teams, including implementing our green plan.

Rebecca joins us from East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust where she is the chief operating officer.

“I am delighted to be joining Shane and the executive team at Barts Health. I am looking forward to working with the hospital chief executives, their teams and our system partners in east London to improve the care we provide to our patients,” said Rebecca.

Rebecca will join Helen Spice, Joni Ferns and Sarah Teather who were appointed to the trust board as non-executive directors last month, bringing a wealth of expertise to the trust.

“I am delighted to welcome Rebecca, Helen, Joni and Sarah to our team. They bring a breadth of skills and experience that will support our ambitions to transform our services for patients, while addressing the health inequalities across east London,” said Shane DeGaris, group chief executive.
