The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has given his go ahead to proposals for the redevelopment of Whipps Cross hospital.

Our plans were granted permission by the Waltham Forest Council planning committee in November 2021 before being sent to the Mayor for ‘Stage 2’ approval, granted on 14 March 2022.

The new hospital will provide the same core services as today in a state of the art, net-zero carbon building. Key features of the new hospital will include:

  • over a third more clinical space
  • a near doubling of CT and MRI scanners
  • more than 70 per cent single rooms, compared to 17 per cent in the current hospital
  • more care delivered on the same day to reduce the need for overnight stays

In November, Waltham Forest Council’s planning committee also approved an application to redevelop the wider Whipps Cross site. A stage 2 decision by the Mayor of London is expected to be made later in the Spring.
