Staying well this winter
As we head into winter, the NHS is preparing for increased demand across hospitals, emergency departments and community services.
There are simple steps we can all take to stay well this winter and help protect those around us.
These include getting your vaccines, staying warm and active, checking in on vulnerable friends, family and neighbours and making sure any repeat prescriptions are stocked up on early.
Seasonal illnesses such as flu play a significant role in winter pressures, leading to more GP appointments, hospital admissions and longer waits for care. While often mistaken for a bad cold, flu can be a serious illness and, in some cases, can lead to complications such as pneumonia, breathing difficulties and hospitalisation.
Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others. Every flu vaccination helps reduce the risk of serious illness, protects those most vulnerable to complications, and helps ease pressure on NHS services during one of the busiest times of the year.
We're supporting London's Big Week (9-16 November), a city-wide campaign encouraging eligible Londoners to get their free flu vaccine before winter pressures peak.
If you're eligible and haven't yet had your flu vaccine, now is the time to get protected.
