The Royal London Hospital plays a central role in the London Major Trauma System (LMTS) – a network that treats over 12,000 seriously injured patients every year and covers a population of more than 10 million people. From helicopter landings to emergency brain surgery, the teams deliver care from the roadside all the way through to rehabilitation.
At The Royal London, the six-part series follows patient Jack who’s been seriously assaulted and has multiple skull fractures and brain bruising, Issac who’s also been assaulted and has a dangerous bleed on the brain, and Grace who’s been hit by a car and has extensive injuries including a major pelvic fracture.
Dr Mamoun Abu-Habsa, Consultant in Critical Care & Emergency Medicine, part of the team treating Jack on arrival to the hospital said: "It has been a privilege to contribute to this extraordinary docuseries, which captures the urgency, complexity, and humanity inherent in London’s major trauma system. More than just storytelling, it serves as a heartfelt tribute to the dedicated professionals and resilient systems that bind our city in the most vulnerable moments. This series shines a light on the unseen and the unsaid, revealing the formidable teamwork that saves lives every single day.”
Stacey Mallia, Neurotrauma Clinical Nurse Specialist, part of the team caring for Isaac added: “It is a privilege to be part of the trauma network. The Neurotrauma team cares for 10% of the UK’s brain injury patients, and supporting patients and their families during their most challenging moments is a true honor. We strive to bring comfort and hope during these difficult times. I hope this series raises awareness of brain injury and highlights the lasting impact it has on patients and their families.”
