Urology team lead the way in quality improvement nationally
The Urology nursing team has been nominated for the prestigious national Macmillan Cancer Quality Improvement prize.
Under the leadership of Paula Allchorne, the team has implemented a model of cross-site working across the Trust, combining the complimentary skills of benign and Cancer CNS to benefit patients and their carers.
Through a collaborative approach with their patients, the nurses developed new prototypes of care; involving group teaching sessions for patients and carers to help patients ‘living with and beyond cancer’ and designing one of the first radiotherapy schools in the country to prepare patients for treatment ahead.
These improvements were so novel and effective that they have led Macmillan Nurse Alex Smith to present the work in a pan-European scientific meeting and the team to be invited to run workshops in New Zealand, China, Dubai and Saudi Arabia to share best practice.
Paula said: "I am so proud of my team, they have all shown commitment and dedication to change and improve the patient pathway. As a team we work cohesively across all sites, supporting the patients through their journey and each other by improving patient experience and quality of care."
