We are pleased to announce that Simon Ashton has been appointed as the substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Newham Hospital, following an open, competitive process with a strong field of candidates.

Simon has been the acting CEO of Newham Hospital since December 2021, prior to which he was deputy CEO.

Having started working in the NHS over 25 years ago as a physiotherapist, Simon made the move into management in the mid-2000s.

Since then, he has had a number of roles, including managing director for clinical support services for the Trust and deputy chief operating officer for the Nightingale Hospital, London during the first wave of the pandemic. He has also been a visiting fellow at London South Bank University, where he wrote and delivered the University’s first master’s units of study in physiotherapy.

Speaking on his appointment, Simon said: “I’m thrilled to have been appointed as the CEO of Newham Hospital and to have the opportunity to lead such a fantastic group of people, dedicated to providing good, quality care to the people of Newham.

“Throughout the pandemic, I was blown away by the dedication and commitment of everyone who works here and it’s an honour to continue to work with them to further improve our hospital and make it an even better place to work and be treated.”

Congratulations Simon!
