Be part of history: volunteer roles open for North Wing public launch

For the first time in over 300 years, the historic North Wing of St Bartholomew’s Hospital will be regularly open to the public — and you can be part of it.
Barts Heritage is recruiting Visitor Experience Host volunteers to support this exciting new chapter, offering a warm welcome to patients, staff and visitors, sharing stories about the hospital’s rich past, and supporting a new programme of events.
The North Wing, home to the Great Hall, grand staircase painted by William Hogarth, and the hospital museum, will be open every Monday and Tuesday from October 2025, with volunteers helping to bring its history to life.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a museum and heritage setting, meet new people, and be part of something truly special.
Full training will be provided in September, and volunteers will receive travel expenses, access to team socials, and support throughout.
No previous experience is needed — just an interest in history, people and making others feel welcome.
Applications close Monday 14 July.
Open days for interested applicants will be held in early August.
Apply by completing the form here or find out more by contacting volunteers@bartsheritage.org.uk.
