"I love working here, it’s like working as part of a big family"

We spoke to Consultant JC about his role, highlights from the past few months and how he feels about being awarded Star of the Month. He has been working at Whipps Cross since 2014 but recently moved to Newham Hospital.

1. What does a week/month look like for you?

I mainly provide care to oncology patients, and I also see new referrals that we get from GPs.

Usually in a normal week I have a few clinics, and this is the biggest highlight of my week meeting patients, listening to them and coming to a solution together.

2. Something you enjoyed the most about working at Whipps?

I love working here, it’s like working as part of a big family, everyone is really friendly. It’s like a one big family, it doesn’t feel like you are coming to work, it feels like you are coming here to have a good time but at the same time you also help people.

3. Are there any particular highlights from the past few months that you’d like to share?

I think receiving the Star of the Month award is probably my biggest highlight from the past few months.

I enjoy talking to patients, I enjoy advocating for women’s health and receiving this award is very good positive feedback for me that tells me that I’m doing the right thing and I’ll continue to do my job the best way I can.

4. How do you feel about being awarded Star of the Month?

It definitely took me by surprise. I’ve seen other colleagues winning it but I never thought I’d be the one receiving the award. I also feel very honoured that a patient nominated me. It makes me very happy.

5. Anything else that you’d like to say?

I think Whipps is a great place to work. I think the O & G department is also a great place to work, and we are all doing as much as we can to advocate for women’s health.
