Making Whipps Cross cleaner, greener and more welcoming
A new campaign has been launched at Whipps Cross Hospital to help make the site cleaner, greener and more welcoming for patients, visitors, staff and local communities.
Love Whipps Cross is about taking pride in the hospital that serves thousands of people from Waltham Forest, Redbridge and beyond every year.
In recent years, Whipps Cross has benefited from significant investment, including a new multi-storey car park, improvements to the Emergency Department and upgraded maternity facilities. Alongside these developments, teams across the hospital are now working together to improve the look and feel of the wider site.
Throughout the summer and beyond, staff will carry out a range of improvements, including removing weeds, improving waste and recycling areas, installing 22 new bins, upgrading lighting, improving pathways and introducing new water refill stations.
Rob Speight, director of estates and facilities (pictured), said: "We are incredibly proud of the care we provide at Whipps Cross, and we want our environment to reflect that same pride.
"Thousands of people come through our doors every week, and small improvements across the site can make a real difference to their experience.
"We are fortunate to be located alongside Epping Forest, which gives Whipps Cross a unique setting. Through Love Whipps Cross, we want to create a hospital environment that is clean, welcoming and pleasant for everyone."
Teams from across the hospital are already playing their part. The Ultrasound department is transforming an unused garden area into a more attractive space, while other teams are helping improve outdoor areas and public spaces around the site.
Rob added: "For many people, Whipps Cross is their local hospital. It is where babies are born, lives are saved and families come together during some of the most important moments of their lives.
"The need for a new Whipps Cross Hospital has not gone away, and we will continue making the case for the investment our communities deserve. But that is still some years away.
"Until then, we're determined to make the most of the hospital we have today and ensure everyone who comes here feels welcome from the moment they arrive."
