Inspiring healthier, happier futures
Running, laughing, and having fun outdoors, our Summer Athletics Day event was recently held for 8-12-year-olds.
Working in partnership with London Virtual School Heads, London Marathon Foundation, local authorities and community partners, the day was packed with enjoyable activities and guidance for families about what helps children stay healthy and active.
Children’s nurse Jessica Semedo shared: “As children’s nurses, we spend our days helping children recover when they’re unwell. Days like today are just as important where we can help children discover the joy of being active, healthy and confident. The times said it all - the best medicine today was smiles, movement and fun! Watching children cross the finish line was just wonderful"
Kath Evans, director of children’s nursing added: “Every child deserves the opportunity to discover the joy of movement. The day wasn’t about winning races, it was about building confidence, making new friends, trying something new and having fun.
“It was great seeing so many young people and families get involved, after all healthy children become healthy adults, and it all starts with moments like these.”
The NHS 10-year health plan raise a healthier generation of children by tackling childhood inactivity and highlighting the value of movement on children’s physical and mental health.
Recent feedback from families revealed the biggest barriers they face to take part in physical activities involve cost, lack of opportunities, safety concerns and lack of confidence - emphasising the need for more accessible ways for families and children to get involved in healthy activities within their local community.
Here’s to more partnerships that help children thrive across North East London!
