We're finalists in the NHS Parliamentary Awards
Two nominations from Barts Health have been shortlisted in The 2023 NHS Parliamentary Awards. Nuru Clark, a Diabetes Specialist Nurse at Newham Hospital was shortlisted as an individual, while the 'pan-London cardiac virtual ward' team at St Bartholomew’s Hospital was shortlisted in the Excellence in Healthcare category,
Launched five years ago, these awards to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution of staff and volunteers working in the health and care sector, with nominations submitted by MPs. This year we worked with local MPs to put forward the following nominations:

Excitingly, two of these nominations have made it through as finalists, once more showing the calibre of work carried out by colleagues working at our Trust. The shortlisted nominees are:

Excellence in Healthcare Award, pan-London cardiac virtual ward, St Bartholomew’s Hospital
Collaboration, led by the North and South London Cardiac networks, across all eight London Cardiac Centres, OneLondon and Ortus-iHealth has enabled over 3,000 patients to be remotely monitored since the start of the project in September 2022, prioritizing deteriorating patients, and facilitating connected care at home in London for patients waiting for cardiac surgery.

Nursing and Midwifery Award, Nuru Clark, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Newham Hospital
I support women with type 2 diabetes mellitus, at preconception, during pregnancy, and immediately at post-natal. I was nominated because I provide high-quality, evidence-based, individualised care to these women, in a borough with a very high rate of type-2 diabetes generally. National Audit (NPID, Oct 2021) showed only 28% of babies born to women with diabetes at our hospital were admitted to the neonatal care unit, compared to the national figure of 45%.
