NIHR North East London Commercial Research Delivery Centre (NEL CRDC)
The NIHR NEL CRDC is one of 35 CRDCs across the UK set up to increase commercial clinical research and respond to the five pillars of the UK clinical research delivery vision.
The NIHR NEL CRDC is a partnership between three NHS trusts Barts Health NHS Trust, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust and Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Across the three Trusts there are eight sites which make up the NEL CRDC: St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Royal London Hospital, Newham Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, Mile End Hospital, Homerton University Hospital, Queen’s Hospital, King George Hospital.
The aims of the NIHR NEL CRDC are:
-
To deliver efficient and meaningful commercial research that gives everyone a fair chance to take part, helping research make a real difference for patients across the region.
-
To grow commercial research across north east London so it reflects the rich diversity of our communities and addresses the health needs that matter most locally.
By using flexible, participant‑focused ways of running studies, we make sure trials are relevant to the region and easier for patients to access and take part in.
Note: Commercial research refers to studies that are funded or sponsored by healthcare companies - most commonly pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device organisations - to develop, test, and improve products such as medicines, treatments, diagnostics, or technologies.
