Tower Hamlets Special School’s Nursing Team Information leaflet
Our mission is to support children and their families to achieve goals and improve their everyday lives…
Who we are…
The School Nursing Team works alongside the Children’s Community Team. The team consists of Specialist Children’s Nurses and Health Care Assistants providing skilled, high quality, comprehensive evidence based nursing care to children with nursing needs attending Tower Hamlets Special Needs Schools.
Our team will support your child with…
- The administration of medication
- Heights and weights
- Enteral feeding
- Oral and nasal pharyngeal suctioning
- Health care plans
- Safeguarding Children and Young People
- Referrals to other professionals and services
- Training for school staff to using a competency based assessment
What we aim to achieve…..
A link between Health and Education with the child and young person at the heart of what we do. Working in partnership with parents, families, carers and other professionals to provide safe care and positive outcomes during the child/ young person’s school journey.
Who is the service for…
We see children and young people aged between 0-19 years attending special schools that require acute or chronic nursing care whilst in school.
Our service is available Monday to Friday 8:30 to 16:30 term time only.
Your Child’s Health Care Records…
During school hours, school nurses will record what happens to your child on their electronic records so that their doctor, community nurse or other health care professionals can plan their future care. It is important to ensure that you tell us of any changes to your personal information in order to keep health records up to date.
If this is your child’s first time enrolment to one of the Special Needs School an initial admission pathway will be completed with the School Nurse. To enable us to improve the quality of care that we provide, your health records are kept by the trust and may be used for teaching, training, audit and research. No identifiable data is used in this.
Keep an eye out for our coffee mornings and support groups!!
