Consultant cardiologist at St Bartholomew's Hospital

He graduated in Medicine from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London, in 1991. After general medical training in London and Leeds, he undertook specialist training in Cardiology at the Middlesex Hospital, London. Having completed a research (MD) degree at University College London — the main findings of which were published in The Lancet — he moved to St Bartholomew’s Hospital to specialise in Cardiac Electrophysiology, the treatment of heart rhythm disorders.

He was appointed as a locum consultant to St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 2002, before being appointed as a consultant to UCLH and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. He returned to Barts as a consultant in 2004. He has served as Clinical Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Deputy Director of Barts Heart Centre and, latterly, Deputy Medical Director of St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

He specialises in both catheter ablation and device therapy. He undertook the first leadless pacemaker implant at Barts and now leads the complex device/lead extraction service. He has trained heart rhythm specialists across the UK and in many parts of the world. He is the author of nearly 150 papers in scientific journals and has delivered lectures in numerous countries.

Research interests

Research interests have included the use of three-dimensional mapping systems during catheter ablation, mechanisms of atrial fibrillation and anticoagulant management of people undergoing heart rhythm procedures.
