Ralph Coulbeck, group director of strategy, has been appointed as the interim chief executive officer (CEO) of Whipps Cross hospital. Ralph will take over from Heather Noble, current  acting chief executive in the absence of Alan, who announced his resignation last month.

Ralph began his career on the NHS Management Training Scheme and has worked in the NHS, parliament and government. Before coming to Barts Health, Ralph was previously director of strategy at the NHS Trust Development Authority.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Whipps Cross team. I know how hard everybody is working and I am keen to support the hospital to meet the continuing challenges of the winter period. I also want to thank Alan for his huge contribution to Whipps Cross over the past few years,” said Ralph.

“Ralph has led on a number of key strategic priorities during his time at the Trust, including the successful launch of the East and South East London Pathology Partnership, the ongoing Whipps Cross Redevelopment and our life sciences programme,” said Alwen Williams, group chief executive. “I have every faith that he will take on this role with the upmost professionalism, compassion and diligence.”

Ralph will move to the interim role by January for a period of six months while a substantive chief executive is recruited.
