Celebrating excellence in medical teaching

Our second annual Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Awards, hosted by the Education Academy, took place at Whipps Cross Hospital.

The awards once again celebrated the outstanding dedication and invaluable contributions of consultants and multidisciplinary teams in organising and delivering undergraduate medical education throughout the academic year.

All nominations were submitted by medical students on placement with us, highlighting the vital role our teams play in shaping their learning experience.

Presenting the awards this year were:

  • Mr Kieran Kelly, Education Academy managing director
  • Dr Helen Parker, Trust curriculum lead for undergraduate medical education
  • Ms Elaine Daley, UG lead for medical and dental education

And the winners are...

  • Outstanding Teaching Fellow for UG Education Winner: Dr Caitlin Cole, Whipps Cross Hospital
  • Senior Clinical Educator of the Year: Dr Afraim Salek-Haddadi, Royal London Hospital and Miss Elizabth Egbase, Royal London Hospital
  • Junior Clinical Educator of the Year: Dr Artenisa Deda, Newham Hospital and Dr Jeveria Raja, Whipps Cross Hospital
  • Department of the Year Award for Education: Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Whipps Cross Hospital and Vascular Surgery, Royal London Hospital
  • Undergraduate Administrator of the Year: Ms Gurleen Virk
  • Clinical Skills and Simulation Teaching Award: Mr Nicholas Townsend, Whipps Cross Hospital
  • Outstanding Contribution to UG Education: Dr Kyriacos Ioannides, Whipps Cross Hospital

Speaking of the day, Kieran Kelly, managing director of the Education Academy said:

“With nominations from students themselves, the event honoured the remarkable contributions of consultants, educators, and teams across the Trust. Congratulations to all the winners!

"This year, we also expressed our sincere gratitude to Dr Paramita Cifelli for her unwavering support of medical students. It is with sadness that we saw her step down from her role as Undergraduate Associate Dean, and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.”
