Whipps Cross Voices: Help us celebrate the history of Whipps Cross

Whipps Cross Voices is an upcoming project led by Barts Health Archives, in collaboration with the Whipps Cross Redevelopment team. The project is being funded through a grant from Barts Charity.

We want to capture stories about the hospital from staff and patients, past and present, and preserve them as a historical resource for the future.

Whipps Cross Hospital has been at the heart of the local community for more than a century, providing healthcare through many challenging periods, up to the current pandemic. We’re at a time of significant change for the hospital, as we move forward with exciting plans for a new hospital, with more clinical space, able to provide more care on the same day and provide a better experience for patients and staff.

Whipps Cross Voices will provide an opportunity for local people, staff and patients to share their thoughts, feelings and memories about Whipps Cross hospital.

We’ll be adding new oral histories to the collections and making stories of the hospital accessible in new interactive ways in the archives space and on the hospital site.

What does Whipps Cross Hospital mean to you? We’re looking for volunteers to get involved. If you’re interested in taking part and sharing your memories, or know someone who might be, please keep an eye out for updates in early 2022.

You will be able to learn more about the history of the hospital by working with the existing archive collections held by Barts Health NHS Trust.

Training will be provided so don’t worry if you’ve never looked at archive records before.
