New X-Ray suite delivered for patients

New inpatient Xray scanner

A major milestone in patient care has been achieved with the opening of a brand-new digital X-ray room equipped with a brand new x-ray scanner, bringing faster diagnostics and improved comfort for inpatients.

After 14 years of service, the previous inpatient X-ray room had reached the end of its usable life. Frequent breakdowns, reduced image quality, and increased maintenance led to delays in diagnosis and impacted the overall patient experience.

To address these challenges, the Imaging department conducted a full review and successfully secured funding to install a state-of-the-art digital X-ray system. A complete refurbishment of the space followed, with careful planning and collaboration between Imaging, Estates, Physics, and the manufacturer.

We delivered a modern imaging suite designed to deliver:

  • Faster, higher-quality images
  • Greater reliability with fewer equipment faults
  • Shorter inpatient wait times
  • Enhanced diagnostic accuracy

This upgrade means patients can expect quicker decisions about their care, supporting faster treatment and earlier discharges.

Importantly, it also brings benefits to staff. The new equipment is significantly lighter and more automated, helping to reduce the physical strain on radiographers and lowering the risk of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries.
