Barts Shielders and the Newham Integrated Discharge Hub finalists for HSJ Awards 2020

Both Barts Shielders and the Newham Integrated Discharge Hub have been shortlisted for a Health Service Journal (HSJ) award.
Bart Shielders
"Barts Shielders" is an initiative that gained traction during the start of the pandemic following the need for 648 shielding staff to be supported virtually. The nomination highlights social innovation and acknowledges the work undertaken and driven forward by individual Barts Health shielders.
It has been shortlisted in the Staff Engagement category.
The initiative involved collaborating with Y Lab of Cardiff University after discovered the power of coming together as a virtual community using new ways to connect during an unprecedented time of isolation and feeling of disconnection.
Newham Integrated Discharge Hub
The Newham team's nomination is part of a collective effort that sees the Trust working collaboratively with ELFT, Newham social services, Enable Living, Age UK and Newham Hospital. It has been shortlisted in the Health and Local Government Partnership category.
The Newham Integrated Discharge Hub was set up in response to Covid-19 to support residents rapidly, safely and securely discharge from hospital.
"The implementation of the Integrated Discharge Hub has provided an opportunity for the staff from the different organisations to come together and work in partnership in a way that wasn't possible previously."
"This has led to a joined-up coordinated approach to discharging patients from hospital. The approach has enabled the identification of need and barriers to care at a much earlier stage in the process facilitating better discharges with positive outcomes for patients and their families/carers."
