Donate your winter woolies to those in need

We caught up with local charity CEO, Idris Patel, who discusses how we can help his charity, Supporting Humanity (SH), this Winter.

The origin of the charity began at the start of the pandemic when we provided 94,000 free hot meals over 60 days to the NHS, LAS, the vulnerable at home and homeless people.

In addition to this we have free funeral director services and a mental health helpline. We currently have over 100 volunteers and two privates ambulances on the road and It's estimated that we have saved families and the government in the region of £1.2-1.5 million in funeral costs in one year.

Recently we have also been paying close attention to the elderly and their loneliness and taking them on days out. Due to the pandemic this particular group have faced long periods of isolation and with these days out we hope to rebuild their confidence. We also work regularly with food banks in the local community.

This year the charity is running the winter woolies campaign, see further info on the poster below:

Is there anything else you would like donated?

Yes, we would really appreaciate new/never worn underwear as well and outdoor shoes like wellington boots.

What would you prefer people didn't donate?

Food, as we are focussing on winter clothing and essentials at present. We would also disccourage the donation of torn or unwearable clothes. Ask yourself would you wear it before donating. Clothes are fully laundered before donating to those in need but please do donate in good condition.

Any final thoughts?

I would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and even if you are not able to donate to this cause you may have friends or family that may be in need of essentials or even just your company, so this is just a reminder to think of these people and any ways you may be able to help them and make a difference this winter.
