Dr Dhanupriya Sivapathasuntharam

Dr Sivapathasuntharam graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1994 and undertook Higher Medical Training in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine in the South London region including at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, London and Kings College Hospital, London. 

She has a broad training and experience in acute and chronic conditions affecting the older person. 

In addition to general geriatrics , Dr Sivapathasuntharam specialises in the peri-operative management of older surgical and trauma patients. She started the hip fracture orthogeriatric service in 2011 and went on to set up the T-POPS (trauma and perioperative older peoples service).

She was one of the first geriatricians in the UK to work with older major trauma patients, which she has done since 2012. She has extensive experience in in working jointly with surgeons in the perioperative period providing medical input to these patients with demonstrable improvements in mortality rates (in hip fracture patients) and reductions in post-operative medical complications. The T-POPS service now provides input into the following specialities: neurosurgery, plastics, vascular, ear nose and throat, urology,general surgery as well as trauma and orthopaedics.

She has presented and lectured nationally and internationally in the field of geriatric trauma. She is also has been undergraduate lead for geriatric medicine at Barts and the London Medical School since 2014.
