Sivapalaratnam
Consultant at The Royal London Hospital
Dr Suthesh Sivapalaratnam works at one of the largest haemophilia practices in the world at the comprehensive care centre at Barts Health NHS Trust, which encompasses 2350 patients with rare inherited bleeding disorders. He was trained in Amsterdam under Prof. Levi. He obtained his PhD on the Molecular Basis of Cardiovascular Disease again at the University of Amsterdam. During that time he spent half of his time at the University of Cambridge under the guidance of his mentor Prof. Willem Ouwehand. Subsequently has done post-doctoral research at MGH and The Broad in Boston expanding his knowledge in genomics under Prof. Sekar Kathiresan.
He leads the paediatric haemostasis and thrombosis service, is the genomics lead and MDT chair for North London and academic lead for clinical haematology. He is an academic group lead on precision medicine, with a focus on genomics and data sciences, principal investigator on innovative clinical trials. He is the Chief Medical Officer for the BloodCounts! consortium. His work with Barts Life Sciences focuses on the early detection of rare disorders and using big data (in size or numbers) to improve health. He has published 70+ peer-reviewed papers with a Google Scholar h-index of 30. He participates in numerous committees including the genomics working party of the UKHCDO (chair) and the ISTH. He is involved in advisory work for the Haemophilia Society and biotech.
