Hello, my name is Philomina and ’m a nurse at Newham Hospital. I originally trained as a nurse in my country of origin, Ghana.  

There’s nothing like a spring clean unearth hidden treasure. And a clear out of the executive offices at Newham Hospital have done just that.

To mark International Day of the Midwife, student midwife Farida Al-Ismaily writes about her experiences so far, including her inspirations, challenges, victories and what it was like working during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

This time last year we worked tirelessly to transform the way we deliver critical care at Newham Hospital, in order to meet the challenges presented by Covid-19. With the London Borough of Newham badly hit by the pandemic, it meant a lot of patients were very sick and required ventilation on an intensive care unit (ICU).  

A collaboration between Barts Health, the British Heart Foundation and community groups is addressing the worrying prevalence of heart disease in east London.
