Mark Turner appointed as Interim Group Director of Strategy and Planning

We are pleased to announce that Mark Turner has been appointed our interim Group Director of Strategy and Planning. Mark joins us from NHS England and Improvement, where he has been Regional Director of Commissioning for London since April 2019.

Mark brings a broad range of experience in strategy development, restructuring and transformation. Over the last 10 years in the NHS this includes leading a number of significant regulatory interventions (including quality and finance special measures) and helping Cambridge University Hospitals to develop its approach to transformation. Most recently, Mark was Senior Responsible Officer for the covid-19 vaccine programme in London, delivering over 16 million vaccinations.

Commenting on his appointment, Mark Turner said:

“It is a real honour to be joining such a fantastic organisation as Barts Health and I’m particularly excited by the opportunities to deepen the collaboration with Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals and other partners to provide even better care for the population of North East London and beyond.”

This is a temporary new group director post that covers Ralph Coulbeck who is acting chief executive at Whipps Cross. Mark will also lead on our business planning.

Alwen Williams, Group Chief Executive Officer at Barts Health, said:

“I am delighted Mark Turner has been appointed as interim Group Director of Strategy and Planning at Barts Health. Mark comes to us with a wealth of experience in strategy and transformation, and I look forward to welcoming him into the role in the new year.”
