Barts Health has been named among the UK’s top 50 organisations for taking action to improve social mobility in the workplace.

Plans for a world-class life sciences centre in east London to invent and implement medical breakthroughs took a step closer today after the capital’s biggest NHS Trust sold spare land for development.

Sybil Allen, 87, and Mary Walker, 88, both met at at St Bartholomew’s Hospital on their first day of preliminary nursing training school on 28 December 1948. 70 years on, after enjoying long nursing careers together, they remain the best of friends and now live together in the Cotswolds.
