St Bartholomew’s museum to reopen with Open House event

The museum at St Bartholomew’s Hospital will reopen on Wednesday 1 September.

It has been closed since last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The museum, which depends on a small team of volunteers to operate, will initially open every Wednesday from 10am to 4pm.

This will increase to Wednesdays and Thursdays from week commencing 11 October.

Lead archivist for Barts Health Kate Jarman said: “We can’t wait to welcome visitors back to the museum at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

“Due to staff or volunteer absence, and changing public health guidance, our opening hours may occasionally be subject to short notice changes.

“Please check our Twitter account for up-to-date information or call us on the day if you’re making a special journey.”

The museum will also be open on Sunday 5 September when the historic North Wing at St Bartholomew’s Hospital will be on display to the public as part of London’s Open House Festival.

Visitors will be able to view the Great Hall, which usually has limited public access, and learn about the major restoration project being overseen by Barts Heritage.

There is also a chance to experience the immersive art installation Regarding Forests.

Created by photographer Chrystel Lebas and located on the ground floor of the North Wing, it will bring the natural world to Britain’s oldest hospital through a series of stunning images taken in temperate rainforests from around the world.

It is presented by Barts Heritage in partnership with the Wellcome Collection.

The Barts Pathology Museum and Maggie’s Barts will also open be open to visitors as part of Open House 2021.
