Staff at Whipps aid relief efforts for the Philippines Taal Volcano eruption

Alma Ocampo, Pre-Assessment Sister at Whipps Cross Hospital, has been working hard to aid families who have been affected by the devastating Taal Volcano eruption in the Philippines by sending donations of food and hygiene products to those who desperately need it.
Alma raised £1100 from colleagues in pre-assessment, admissions, theatres, eye theatres, eye clinic, Plane Tree Ward and the anaesthetic department, which enabled her to send 82 aid bags - one bag for each family affected. They were received on Sunday 19 January in Ibaan Batangas, Philippines, and the people of Batangas were very grateful for the help and support.
The families were also provided with breakfast when they collected their bags and were given medication for coughs and colds that Alma’s family provided. Alma’s family also made the banner that is pictured and the shirts worn by the volunteers.
Alma commented: "It is my love and care for the people that motivates me and I feel I have a social responsibility and capability to help the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption. I have a lot of good people around me that made this relief operation a big success and I will be forever grateful."
Great work Alma and all who were involved in the relief effort!
