Olufunke Aliu
Christian Chaplain
I am an ordained Pastor in the Pentecostal tradition after the necessary theological training but secularly, I qualified as a lawyer and was called to the Nigerian Bar.
I began my chaplaincy journey as a volunteer at the Guys & St Thomas Hospital in 2019. During my time volunteering, I realised how much I enjoyed my work in the hospital, helping vulnerable, sick people to find meaning with life whether along religious lines or not and helping them to find hope for the future. This lead me to enrol for the Post graduate Certificate in Health Care chaplaincy at the London South Bank University. I joined the Bart’s NHS Trust immediately after, in August 2022.
I enjoy working as a chaplain in the NHS because of its multicultural and multifaith structure. Being able to bring comfort, care and hope in a compassionate way to patients from all backgrounds is also both humbling and enriching.
