  • Lead clinician for the Royal London Major Trauma Service – one of the busiest trauma centres in Europe.
  • Clinical reader at the Centre for Trauma Sciences, Queen Mary University of London with research focus on the immediate minutes and hours after injury. 
  • Academic interest in acute traumatic coagulopathy to develop a deeper understanding of pathophysiology and produce innovations in therapeutics and device interventions to save lives.
  • Module lead for Trauma Masters MSc at Queen Mary University of London
  • Yeo Ghim Seng Visiting Professor of Surgery at National University of Singapore
  • Trained in prehospital care and anaesthesia and have worked for both London’s and Essex & Herts Air Ambulances.

Full spectrum of major trauma care, resuscitative surgery and vascular reconstruction

Research interests

Chief Investigator for the multi-centre perpetual observational cohort study (ACIT-2) investigating the systemic inflammatory, coagulation and genomic response in humans to severe injury and bleeding after major trauma (ISRCTN12962642). To date has recruited over 5000 patients across seven Major Trauma Centres in Europe.

Trial management and site PI for the largest trauma transfusion trial (CRYOSTAT-2). 

Recruited 1604 patients with major haemorrhage at all 25 UK Major Trauma Centres (MTCs) and one US centre. 

First author of the trial publication in JAMA (2023) which is in the top 5% of all research outputs (25m+) ever tracked by Altmetric.  

100+ peer reviewed publications of original research.  Regular invitations to speak at scientific conferences as an internationally renowned researcher in the field of trauma coagulopathy.

PhD supervisor and have trained over 20 clinical research fellows at C4TS.

External PhD examiner at the University of Birmingham and University of Toronto.
