Ajit Abraham appointed co-chair of the group inclusion board

Group director of inclusion

Ajit Abraham has been appointed as the first staff co-chair of the new inclusion board.

Ajit is consultant hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and trauma surgeon, one of our senior medical leaders, and has a passion to create an inclusive, safe and compassionate environment.

He will work closely with Alwen Williams, group CEO and co-chair of the inclusion board, bringing a voice for staff and patients, thought leadership, constructive challenge and solutions for inclusion and equalities across the Barts Health group.

Coupled with his considerable leadership experience in quality improvement (QI), his appointment will help us advance towards being a truly inclusive organisation where everyone feels they belong #WeBelong.

Ajit said:“I am humbled to be offered this role, which I want to use to help us on our journey to becoming a more equal and equitable organisation for all colleagues and for the patients and communities we serve.”

Alwen said: “I am delighted that Ajit has been appointed to this key group leadership role. I look forward to his thoughtful and empowering leadership for our important work of creating full inclusion for all.”

Ajit was one of the first people appointed through our recently launched inclusive senior recruitment process.

The new group inclusion board met for the first time on Friday 13 November. Its role is to lead the strategy and oversee the delivery of transformational change to create an environment where everyone feels included or that they belong. It shares decision making with staff and its members include a balance of executives and staff from each staff diversity network, each hospital, and the staff partnership board.

All staff are warmly invited to join Ajit and Alwen, trust leaders and guest speakers on Friday 27 November to launch WeBelong - our new inclusion strategy.
