Women allowed support throughout pregnancy

We understand that the restrictions on visiting during the pandemic have been very difficult for those in hospitals as well as the relatives and loved ones of those in our care.
As of April 2021 and in line with government guidance we are allowing full access for partners/support person of pregnant women to attend all antenatal and postnatal appointments throughout their pregnancy journey. Women will also be able to be supported if they are admitted for a pregnancy loss at any stage of their pregnancy.
Partners/support person allowed to attend:
- the emergency gynaecology unit (EGU)
- all antenatal scans
- other antenatal appointments where the woman considers it important to have support
- labour and birth from the point of attendance at the hospital or midwifery unit
- Post-natal care
The safety of our patients and colleagues remains a top priority for us. Therefore, we encourage all chosen partners to adhere to the infection control measures set out by the hospital which includes wearing a surgical face mask within the hospital, washing or disinfecting hands regularly and keeping a safe distance from others.
Partners will also be offered a PCR test at the same points as the pregnant women. The chosen partner or support person should remain the same throughout the woman’s pregnancy journey.
If you are a pregnant mother having your baby at any of our hospitals and have any questions about what you have read – please ask your midwife for any further information.
